Montana Weddings

November in Paradise

Paradise Valley Montana is a visual delight just about any time of year. This engagement session in November was no exception and this couple drove all the way from Kentucky to visit their venue for next summer’s wedding and to spend some time in front of my camera in my backyard.

Emily serves in the military and it was an honor and a pleasure to make some images with these two. A really delightful couple!

The images look warm but the breeze made it a little brisk at about 50 degrees. The intense sun and quick shooting helped us stay comfortable and happy.

Enjoy the view!

Film at your wedding

I’ve decided to reintroduce my love for b&w film photography into my weddings, elopements and surprise proposal photo work. It’s been on my mind for awhile and recently I had a client that showed interest in the idea as he himself is a film photographer.

This is the beginning of a larger collection of b&w images that I am setting out to capture in the days, weeks and in the new year to come.

I love the look and feel. I think it has something to do with the fact that an ephemeral moment is captured in the physical silver molecules in the emulsion of the film. I like that idea! Enjoy the view.

Josh and Krista in Camelot

Earlier this year Joshua and Krista married atop the Rims above Billings Montana. Because of the threat of the covid virus, a very small group of family and friends gathered to witness the intimate and very meaningful wedding ceremony. Fast forward four months… Josh and Krista did it again… this time the wedding was complete with all their family and friends at the beautiful Camelot Ranch outside of Billings.

The day was warm, hearts were happy and the evening was graced with an amazing sunset that I put to good use for my fine friends. Cheers to Krista and Josh Nelson!

Enjoy the view

Thanks to my friend Cali Frankovic for making the trip to second shoot this beautiful wedding with me. You rock Cali!

Wyoming wedding

This wedding took place way above Buffalo, Wyoming in the Big Horn mountains! What was once planned to be a large scale wedding elsewhere was sized down to family and friends close to home for this intimate family affair. With their own rendition of a ‘traditional western’ wedding, Richelle and Duncan exchanged vows on the land where her family has hunted, camped and played for many years.

After the ceremony and a mountain side snack, we had to take cover from a storm that blew in and dumped rain and hail. It was all too amazing… then the sky opened up and gifted them with double rainbow. Remarkable!

After that we hopped into a beautifully renovated 60’s Willys Jeep wagon and down, down, down the Crazy Woman Canyon we went, stopping here and there for pictures in it’s magical surrounds.

See for yourself!

Richelle’s brother presided and emotions ran deep
and look who showed up to shoot with me! My friend, the inimitable Cali Frankovich!

Cheers to Richelle and Duncan! Thanks for sharing your family wedding with Heather and I! love… Larry

Yellowstone River engagement

We had been waiting for this day! And finally everything aligned and it was a stellar day to photograph on the banks of the mighty Yellowstone River.

Rachel and Ian are marrying next June and we’ve been jockeying around busy schedules, rainy weather and life in general to land on a day to shoot. Perseverance and patience won out! So we met up by the river and packed in about a mile with clothes, cameras and a swim suit. I never miss a chance to get into the Yellowstone.

Oh my… it was magic. Check it out!

And in the end, once again I reunited with the waters of this amazing river!

Matrimony and Covid-19

Like many other couples around the world that had made wedding plans for this spring and summer(?), most have had to cancel their plans and look toward the future after this Covid-19 shutdown. Joshua and Krista have done just that. However, they had set the date for the wedding and decided to go through with it in a very private way.

Last week, on the Rims overlooking Billings a very small group of friends and family gathered. It was a refreshing experience. Those that gathered practiced recommended physical distancing on the ridge overlooking the Magic City. For me, it was a much needed break from the seclusion of the past weeks. Just to hop in my car and drive a couple of hours, take in the Montana country side, and do what I love to do! Capture life and love with my camera…

Here is a glimpse of Krista and Joshua’s wedding day. I’m looking forward to the big wedding celebration planned for July!

Ps. If you look closely at the featured image on the top of the page, you might be able to see the flock of birds that showed up high in the sky. I think they were ‘love’ birds of sorts. smiles!

Cheers to Krista and Josh! I’m so looking forward to July with all of your friends and families!
