Living in Montana

Casey Anderson and Brutus the Grizzly Bear

National Geo Live

A number of years ago I had the opportunity to shoot with Casey Anderson and Brutus the grizzly bear for the Discovery Channel. The TV piece was aired on America The Wild, National Geo Live.

Recently this beautiful creature passed on of old age.  He lived out his years here in Montana being visited by people from all over the world.  Perhaps one of the most amazing animals I’ve ever seen up close and personal!   Brutus… you’ll be missed!

COVID-19 shutdown in Montana

Watching my little town come to somewhat of a screeching halt as businesses close their doors and people hunker down has been a quiet time in Livingston. The threat of illness brought by this virus has created a new reality, albeit temporary. For me, I’ve take the opportunity to get outside more and go for long walks on the weekends. During the week I walk to my studio by myself in the big empty Shane Lalani Center for the Arts.

Today I took a roundabout route to walk to work and carried my camera to see what I might see. The mountains were obscured and a haze was over the mighty Yellowstone River which added it’s mystery to the crystalline environment.

On my route, I met other’s that were out walking and joyously greeting others that were sharing the same experience. It is obvious that folks are hungry for the social interaction of our little rural community.

So I hope you enjoy the view of our small town Montana, USA during the last weeks of winter. Be safe, be kind and stay healthy!

I found that this sign had acquired a different meaning than was originally intended.
As perhaps this mural as well… to some.
And finally my destination at this beautiful old school building that has seen a lot!

And then sighting my first Robin this year. There is hope!

Soon this will pass and a vibrant life will once again return to all of our towns and cities. I have had a few calls from couples that have had to cancel their wedding plans for the early spring weddings. Some of whom having successfully rescheduling with venues and service providers and some not. If this has happened to you and are looking for help with photography or connecting to other services for your wedding, I’m happy to help. Give me a call or hit the Contact Larry button!

Winter Walk

Winters in Montana are stunning and beautiful, albeit at times pretty cold.  So, I decided to take a winter walk yesterday afternoon to spend a little time with my dog Yeshe and my camera.   Unfortunately I could not photograph the sunset because after a bit my camera battery got too cold and… good night camera!  Enjoy the view.

a winter walk

A very winter and quiet day today. My wife and daughters headed for the ski hill. I took time to reflect, walk and share time with my true blue doggie Yeshe. Today she was a snow dog. I snagged a camera on the way out the door with no idea what ‘we’ might find. A day like no other.

So here are some images and some thoughts. MY HOME Montana!

There is a place in the West where ancient traditions are revered, where thoughts of the East are more near than distant, where the reflection of compassion settles upon river pools and aspirations of liberation glow in the mountain sky. It is a place that I am honored to visit. A place where I remember to take refuge in the sky, the clouds, the water, the spirit and the very air that I breath. It is a place that reflects what I find in my own heart.

I call it HOME

winter walk along the Yellowstone

Winter is an amazing time along the Yellowstone River. I took my camera for a walk today that recently froze up, pushing the river out of it’s normal boundaries. The visual result is stunning.

In February I’ll be teaching Yogatography again with Margaret Burns Vap. This time it will be at the Winter Wonderland Retreat in Clyde Park at the  Double T River Ranch . Our subject will be the ‘nature of winter’. We’ll be taking to the fields and the river bed around the ranch and learning more about seeing and capturing images of winter with our cameras.

Enjoy my black and white view of a winter walk along the Yellowstone river this morning. Larry

family time in NY

A few weeks ago I was in the Midwest. This week I am in the Northeast and I am loving the change of view. It’s family time for me around the US… and I have been flying around viewing life through the eyes of my family, young and old and reconnecting to our common roots. OH SO GOOD for this guy!
So take a look and may it bring appreciation of all family ties: yours, mine and others. Family is a great blessing!
With love in my heart.
