Hybrid Engagement session

Here’s the latest in engagement session photography. We call it Hybrid Wedding Imagery. Camden Miller Productions and Larry Stanley Photography are working together in this endeavor and I must say we’re having a great time with it.

Here is a short clip that Camden created with his video and my stills. Oh and the Bald Eagle launching from the tree below his drone was something you just can’t script! AMAZING moments of nature caught by the intuitive eye and reflexes of Camden Miller, just minutes after our brief and COLD photo session with Kathleen and Charles.

Visit us this Saturday at the Yellowstone Wild Gallery in Bozeman during the annual Bozeman Bridal Walk. Please come say hello and see more of our work.

Yellowstone Park proposal at the Falls

I love surprises, and this one was a huge success. Seth contacted me in the spring of this year and he inquired regarding my secret photography of surprise wedding proposals in Yellowstone Park. A few back and forth emails and soon we’re on the phone scheming and planning Seth’s big surprise. He and Sarah had been a couple for 7 years, but with school and jobs and everything they had not yet got to that point. This year was the year and she did not know it!   They had a trip planned for a week of hiking, fishing and camping in the wilderness of Yellowstone. So we exchanged pictures so we would recognize each other and set the time and place.

When I arrived early to the spot below the lower falls, true to form Mother nature was creating quite a display of spray and light causing this amazing rising mist in the background. Everything was in sync and the location cleared out. I had watched 20 and 30 people at a time come and go. Now it was empty and here came Seth and Sarah. Sarah didn’t even give me a second glance, I was just the funny tourist dude with a camera and bag like everyone else in the Park. But when he stood their facing her, ring box in hand waiting for her to raise her glance from her phone while making photos of the falls… I knew something very special was about to occur.

Here’s the rest of the story in moments from the afternoon.

Seth and Sarah, I so loved witnessing your proposal and engagement. It’s amazing how well met we were!

I thought ahead and took a bottle of bubbly with me in a cooler full of ice, and some ‘cool’ pint jars to sip from and celebrate! And celebrate they did!!!

Winter engagement sessions

Fast and Fun!

Kathleen and Charles are marrying on this beautiful Big Sky ranch in 5 short months. The 320 Guest Ranch is always beautiful, whether it is covered in the white of winter or the lush green of high altitude spring and summer!

This couple chose to come and visit in the winter to meet with vendors and make their final arrangements for their August wedding. And… they wanted outdoor engagement sessions regardless of temperatures and snow.

Kathleen was set on braving the weather in her gorgeous gown and the Charles donned a jacket for some of the shoot.

This was one of the quickest engagement sessions I have ever done. One of my early teachers always said ‘it doesn’t take time it takes attunement’! It always made me think of the fleeting and lightening fast passing of moments.

In the same vein, I’ve always repeated in my mind that it doesn’t take a lot of time to capture amazing images. Moments are fleeting by very quickly compared to minutes or hours! Well, this time I had the chance to prove out my thoughts and test my skills. Here are over a dozen captured moments that spanned only 17 minutes and at least 9 of those minutes my subjects were warming themselves in the car between the 3 quick sets.

Kathleen and Charles, I can’t wait to see the images we make together in August! Cheers, Larry

wedding by the Yellowstone

It’s not always that I get the opportunity to shoot a wedding just blocks from my home right here in Livingston Montana.  The fall colors brought a unique beauty to Sacajawea Park and the adjacent Yellowstone river.  Anne Marie and Dan contacted me earlier in the year and I was excited to be hired for the photography.  The colorful autumn weather held off colder temperatures until the day after the wedding.  Phew…!

Thanks to my good friend and stellar photographer Carlie Breen Auger for second shooting with me.  Here is a mix of some of the beautiful images we captured… Oh yes, and a fun collection of my images portraying what it’s really like with the groomsmen in their ‘get ready’ process!

enjoy the view!

Wedding Photojournalist Association

WPJA Award winning image.

Wow, just got the news. I feel so honored to have one of my images chosen in the 4th Quarter WPJA photo contest. This was an image that I grabbed while one of my clients was putting on her pearls. I was watching carefully during the preparation and I remember that I sensed something special. I had my camera to my eye. The light in the room was quite low and I was shooting without a flash at a really slow shutter speed. My anticipation payed off. Click. Bingo! I saw the moment in somewhat disbelief and wondered if I actually caught it. As usual, I was too busy at the moment to view it. Besides, if I’m staring down at my preview screen, I’m missing what is happening in the present. Later when I was going through the evening of images, there it was. phew! I love this image.

Thanks WPJA! Thanks Barbara!

If you’d like to see the album from this wedding. Here’s a link. Enjoy!

Glorious summer wedding

Summertime will be here before you know it!  At this time of year when temperatures don’t get much above 45 F and usually everything is covered with the white snow blanket of the season, I love to go back and revisit a favorite Montana summer wedding when things were green and gorgeous.  Take a minute to breath in the love and the beauty of this wedding at The Chateau Event Center in Bozeman.

Currently I still have some select Saturdays open for summer weddings. So if you’re shopping for a seasoned professional that loves capturing all the beautiful moments, let’s talk.

The delicious floral creations were created by my friend Julio at The Flower Hat!

Cheers and enjoy the view!   Larry
