Portraits in Paradise

I live in one of the most beautiful places on earth. Just down the road from my home is the breathtaking Paradise Valley. I call it my studio… where miles and miles of the mighty Yellowstone River careens through the valley, surrounded by mountains and capped with the ever changing big Montana Sky. Add a sundown like none other and you get perhaps as close to heaven as you can without actually leaving this temporal place on earth.

Last summer I spent a couple of hours with a returning client that wanted to take advantage of a summer day making photos in a couple of locations including an sundown dip in the Yellowstone, a baptism of sorts.

It was breathtaking!

So, whether you are planning a wedding, a surprise proposal, an elopement or simply portraits in a place you will never forget, give me a call or contact me via this site. I’ve lived here over 30 years and I have access to many amazing vistas and ‘secret spots’ both public and private in which to photograph. Enjoy the view!

Summer wedding in Paradise

Anna and Adam married this weekend in the beautiful Paradise Valley. The day was sunny and warm; it seems summer has finally come to our to little home in this mountain valley. The surrounds of the Sage Lodge was perfect for the event. Stylish, tasteful, classy but certainly not stuffy!!! And let’s talk about scenic views!!! The Yellowstone River winds through the valley below the lodge and Emigrant Peak towers above everything, providing a constant visual treat in any direction you choose to look.

I couldn’t wait to dive into these images this morning to rediscover the moments that I witnessed through the lens. Thanks to my most excellent second shooter Becca Boylan. Becca… you’re amazing!

Enough talk… now enjoy the view! First of all the slide show…

phew! such a beautiful wedding!

Stephanie and Michael in Paradise Valley

It was such a pleasure to photograph with Steph and Michael last week. Their September wedding is coming right up and we made time to get together for a little meet and greet ‘photography style’! I always like to see my clients face to face ahead of the wedding day to make some fun images together. It makes the wedding day photography much more productive. So we did and it was an amazing evening. This time I chose from some of my secret and private locations! yep!

And by the way, I think there is going to be a lot of dancing involved at this wedding!

Feel the LOVE… and enjoy the view!

‘waiting for the eclipse’

Truth is… I got bored on the day of the eclipse. Everyone in town was sitting around with silly glasses on staring at the sky, as though ‘looking through a glass darkly’!  hahaha….  So I raced down the river valley giving myself only 10 minutes to set up and solve whatever lighting challenge the circumstance might present.  I can only imagine what people around were thinking about the funny photog dude rushing around, back and forth from the camera to the lights and then standing in his chosen spot… doing ‘selfie’ lighting checks.  Then things settled down and I found the image I was looking for.  It was worth it.

I call it ‘waiting for the eclipse’

Scenic Montana

I took a break from website building this weekend to see what I could see.  It was a brisk and beautiful evening in Paradise Valley and I didn’t come back empty handed.

stuck in Livingston on a winter day

I slid home last night over the Bozeman pass at about 35 mph.  It was just the perfect mix of rain turning to snow with temperatures that were dropping.  It made the highway through the mountains a skating rink with impatient driver, some without snow tires.  It was sort of comical in a sick way.  I watched cars and trucks slide off the roadway in slow motion.  In a stretch of 10 miles I saw 4 vehicles off the road and two others that had collided and were sitting waiting for the tow trucks.

Well all that to say, winter is here and so today,  my car stayed in the driveway and I took a walk around the neighborhood to see the more beautiful aspects of a winter storm.

Livingston is so quaint when it gets snuggled in for the winter.  Enjoy the view.
